On the application form, it wants applicants to state the intended major, what's the purpose of this, are they going to desginate your courses based on that choice? Or we get to choose major again when we enter or at the 3rd year? Thx alotz.

the prospective major slot on the CAS application is simply to give them an idea of where your interests lie. many many students put "undecided."

in CALS, the major slot determines which students you compete against. It's not particularly hard to change major once you're there, though.

What you write down as your intended major will not have any bearings whatsoever on your future decisions once you enroll at Cornell, at least if you are in CAS. You can even change college if you would like that.

however , they want us to write a essay about our intened major, if its left undecided, how can I compose such a essay? Does anyone have any idea?

usually those 'undecided' people end up writing about how cornell, its diversity and resources will help them find their field of interest.

if youre in schools other than CAS, you are placed in your major and a bit more confined. however, if you do pretty well in your classes and want to switch to something else (and do well in those classes) you can switch easily.
