So, I've been sending out replies to schools that have accepted me to let them know that I'm going to attend another school. However, for Case Western, the instructions weren't really clear, so I assumed that I had to go to their "confirm enrollment" section to tell them I was going somewhere else. Little did I know that it was a direct link to enrolling into the school!

I'm really scared right now, because I really want to go to my top choice (Stanford), and I sincerely hope that this is not an irrevocable mistake. I've already left a message for the Office of Admissions, but I won't hear from them until Monday. I'm really nervous... does anyone have any experience with this and can they tell me if I have any hope now? Please help me!!! :(

I mean, I want to enroll at Stanford, but it seems that I’ve accidentally enrolled at Case Western when I tried to tell them I wasn’t going to apply there. Do you see my predicament? I worked really hard to get into Stanford, and I don’t want that jeopardized just because I clicked the wrong button.

I’m pretty sure if you just call them and explain to them that you wanted to let them know you weren’t enrolling because you are enrolling elsewhere, but accidentally enrolled there, they would understand and not include you in their class. Don’t worry about it, it will be okay. Lol, I have a feeling this would have happened in the past.

So you think because you accidentally enrolled in this school you won’t get to go Stanford?

That’s not happening. Just call the school if you have to and let them know your mistake. At any rate even if they say “No hahaa, you’re enrolled forever!” you can still just go to Stanford…

Calm down. You’ve emailed the admission’s dept. about the mistake. You didn’t sign any contract. You didn’t send in any deposits. It’ll be fine. If you don’t receive an email response by noon on Monday, give them a call. They’ll fix the mistake. Now breathe and start looking forward to Stanford.

Haha, yeah, I’ve noticed that, too. Except, Stanford isn’t an Ivy… But I’m only this way with Stanford, anyway. Kinda like it’s too good to be true, so anything might ruin it for you… Yeah. We’re crazy and paranoid. It seems to work :)

“We offered a spot to a student off the waitlist a few years ago only to find he’d made deposits at two other Ivy League schools before May 1 as placeholders. Before May 1, double deposits are unethical and illegal. It’s also stupid. We ended up rescinding our offer, and I heard the other schools did as well.” — former Ivy League admissions officer

In your case, it was a mistake, but it is not kosher to make 2 commitments. Stanford acceptance is not easy to come by. You are right not to jeopardize it. But I am sure they are reasonable people.

All right, all right, I get it. I guess I just freaked out in the moment and posted a dumb thread, but at least I know now. (Although, I was worried and didn’t know any better, so I think I was somewhat justified.) Thanks for helping out… even if you’re calling me idiotic.
