Therefore, I can submit housing stuff and it won't be enrollment binding?

Also, if I'm in Honors, I'm practically guaranteed a specific dorm, correct? Therefore, are there any added benefits to submitting an agreement now as opposed to later?

You’re guaranteed a specific dorm for honors. However, rooms are assigned based on the date that you confirm housing. When DD1 started at UMD 4 yrs ago, you couldn’t submit a housing request unless you confirmed enrollment, and she held off confirming enrollment until late April when she heard from all of her schools. She ended up being in a triple in Denton as a result. Luckily, it was a planned triple (a bit more floor space), but with 3 girls it was REALLY jam-packed…and it still only had 2 closets. She knew guys who were in a “forced” triple (a double room made into a triple with the addition of a bunk bed).

With UMD’s change a couple of years ago that you quoted, there really is no reason not to submit a housing request ASAP if there’s a reasonable chance you may attend UMD. If you decide not to attend UMD, you will need to let the housing office know.

I am so tempted to do the housing selection, but I am so concerned of the commitment involved , or if I touch the wrong button, that I stop myself. SO, is it completely independent one from another? Is it like the U Florida, except no fee for it? I am still expecting a couple more schools before making the decision, you know? Thanks

color - my guesses were confirmed; I submitted my housing agreement earlier this afternoon and it was non-binding in anyway! In fact, there’s a huge CHANGE button if I want to change any aspect of my meal plan or rooming options.

Confirm now. There is no student at Maryland right now who wouldn’t stress this fact. So many people have to spend their first semester at least in a forced (flex) triple.
There is nothing binding about it.

I plan on confirming but my parents want me to visit two other schools this month so should I confirm my housing now rather then wait till the end of the month idk y but I’m really nervous that if I don’t confirm soon I won’t get a decent dorm.

@invader71: Like the other posters have said, there is no fee or obligation to attend UMD if you confirm housing, so there really is no reason not to do it now.

“I agree to:
accept and pay for a room assignment in a residence hall, if confirmed for housing”

So do you get confirmed only if you accept admission to UMD? I was under the impression that filling out the form in itself was the “confirming for housing” part. Sorry if you think this is repetitive from what was said before… just a little confused with it.

Yeah, I think I have a similar question to the poster above. The terms of agreement seem like they’re binding to me (at least for the meal plan section of the form)

It mentions something about paying fees (if your plans change) and you don’t notify UMD prior to July 1st. Would I be correct in assuming that if I were to not submit my enrollment form to the school, that I wouldn’t have to go out of my way to cancel this form?

I would think it would be obvious to UMD if I didn’t submit an enrollment form prior to May 1st that I wouldn’t be going there, but I still don’t want them to hit me with a fine over this silly form.

I think you might have to cancel housing seperately from admission. That’s all they’re saying, and if you enrolled you are obligated to pay for at least part of the room if you don’t cancel housing by the July 1st deadline. (Even if you decide to live off campus etc.)

I called housing and they confirmed to me that it is OK to go ahead and fill the housing form now, as long as we call them ASAP if we decide not to attend UMd. you have till july 1st otherwise you will be penalized. So I did it

accept and pay for a room assignment in a residence hall, if confirmed for housing.
participate in and pay for the Resident Dining Plan or one of its options.
use these services for the entire semester (few reasons allowed for early release).
cancel in writing, if plans change, and pay significant late fees after July 1 for the fall semester or after December 1 for the spring semester.
look for an immediate email confirmation of this agreement submission and contact reslife@umd.edu for any problems or questions."

These are all check boxes on the “confirm housing” page. Are you guys sure that confirming is NOT binding me to paying any kind of fee if I decide I don’t want to live on campus??

agree with ginab591…they did not ask for credit card information or for you to promise your first born son…there will be many students looking for housing over the summer. Since U of Maryland does not make scholarship offers with acceptance letters they have to know that students will change mind when they find out financial aid package.

So if you are invited to C.P. scholars does it make no sense to confirm housing early? As depending on the are of scholars you are admitted to, that may change the dorm assignment ? Thank you for any clarification.
