Well, I was looking through my packet and one of the requirements I saw was to have taken the SAT to confirm my PSAT score.

I'm not exactly sure how close the SAT score has to be to confirm, so I'm a little confused and worried. I got a 220 on the PSAT, and a 2100 on the SAT. Is this a close enough margin considering the SAT has an essay, some higher level math, and factoring in test fatigue?

Is there any general guideline by which to confirm that the score is close enough?

hyperJulie, your SAT score is fine. I read somewhere here that a 2000 will probably be good enough, but that is not official. 2100, however, shall be good enough.

hyperJulie, according the National Merit people, last year your combined math and critical reading score had to be 1300 or above as a minimum to become a finalist. They will choose a minimum critical reading and math or a minimum overall score this year, but they will not decide this score until December which would be too late to retake for a higher score for purposes of becoming a finalist. I've seen "2000" mentioned often as the supposed minimum, but no official word on that. Hope that helps.
