So.

Show choir at my school is a really big deal, and we are ranked nationally in the top spots year after year so its a big deal here. Its almost like a cult. We have roughly 425 people total in our high schools show choir department, and only 40 spots on the Varsity show choir. Anybody to make this group (if they do, just for their senior year, however) is a big deal and is the result of five years of hard work.

I made this group this year, as a sophomore. Its a big deal. I am VERY grateful for this opportunity. We practice twice a week for three hours each time, and sometimes on Saturdays. Unfortunately, I want to be the Sophomore Representative for our cities Community Education Advisory Council which works directly with our school board. The application process is lengthy and intense. Im fairly certain I would have a pretty good chance at getting the spot.

My problem is, unfortunately, it conflicts with ONE day of show choir a month. Its from 7:00-8:30, and our practice on that day runs from 6:00-9:00. However, I would be able to attend the beginning and end of practice.

Do you think it would be unreasonable to miss roughly 1 hour 50 minutes of practice once a month? I mean, I am EXTREMELY lucky, and if I was placed in any of the other groups besides Varsity I would have applied already. Is it reasonable to approach him about this, or should I be grateful and save it for next year? I have a lot of ways to make our school better, and this is the BEST way to go about it. I am already in other clubs that deals with our school, like Student Council, but this would be a great experience.

Any input? Thanks!
