Conflicting exctracurriculars :(

hi guys so i’m a soph in highschool and i’m in varsity tennis as well as honors orch, but sometimes the after school rehearsals and practices are conflicting and my tennis coach hates this. i think i will have to drop orch as i enjoy playing tennis more, but will this hurt my app?
thankss

At the end of the day, the question should not be “will this hurt my app?” It’s “which activity do I enjoy more?”

At an interview, you’ll be much better able to speak of an activity for which you have passion, as opposed to one that’s there for the sake of your resume.

Our kids’ school tries to accommodate kids who have these types of conflicts. The conflict only exists for 1/3 of the year, right? Can you stick to both? Of course a concert or actual tennis match is going to take precedence over practice for the other. And you have to be a proactive communicator on how you are going to handle conflicts in the schedule. But unless you risk losing your spot in one or the other altogether, I say try to stick with the activities you like.

thanks for the reply guys and our coach is hell bent on everyone attending practices and i’m the only one who has a musical extracurricular on the whole team girls AND boys.

I’m surprised everyone on the tennis team isn’t also playing music.

our team is like 4 in the state. tryhard af. maybe that’s why.

What is the state.tryhard af.?

Where are you on the tennis line up?

i guess both our state(texas)and our school is tryhard in tennis. i’m #7 as for this year, and next year i believe 3 seniors will be leaving for our boys side.

If you are not a superchamp player drop tennis. If you are a 2 star recruit you will have to be ranked top 120 or so in texas and top 6-700 in the country. You will get a lot of backing in admissions if you elect to play for the school.

If you are just a “for fun” player who doesnt practice 4-7 days a week and 20+ hours, then quit tennis as it will not help you application anywhere compared to honors orch.

Team tennis isn’t really important and since tennis isnt a team sport coaches and schools won’t care about the team results if you were #7 on the team and didn’t play

also, if youre school is lower than 5a, state ranking and uil results don’t really matter. I have a friend who won 4 state titles in 3 a and 4 a tennis, he didn’t even mention it to the schools he was interested in, he included usta instead

lol i am superchamp but i most definitely do not plan to play college tennis. i resolved my problems with the coach about a week ago, but thanks a bunch for the info C:

Continue to play. Being a super is something that will help you a lot. Did you play sa supers this weekend? weather was nice

haha i did not, but i should have… i think i will drop to champs but i’m alright with that. too many tryhards in supers lol
