Conflicting Schedule

Hi! I need some advice on what to do with my schedule. I am about to go to school (11th grade) and I requested for 3 APs. Unfortunately, my school only has one class of French 3(my first elective) and AP Music Theory (my second elective) and they fall on the same period. This means I cannot take both. I requested to take AP Music Theory and just add another elective to complete my schedule, but I found out that you must take 3 years of language consecutively. Otherwise, I will start back at French 1 as a senior.
What should I do? I want to take 3 APs in order to boost my GPA for colleges, but at the same time, I want to take French 3 and not have to start back at square one in my senior year. Is there a possibility that I can still do French 3 while skipping one year in order to make my schedule work?

I think your foreign language should be the priority . Colleges want to see it as well. Are there other AP courses that would work in your schedule?

Seems like the music class is the one that should be postponed, not the French class. If your summers are free and you have $$, you could look into summer language study at a place like Concordia but it seems like moving the music class to the next year is a better idea.

I am already going to take AP English and AP US History, but I would like to get more APs in my schedule. I want my GPA for sophomore and junior year to be high.

Requirements always trump electives. It’s a non-issue - take AP Music Theory as a senior. Be aware that the effect of on AP class on A 3.5 year GPA (assuming you get an A) is relatively minuscule. If necessary, your GC can explain the course conflict on the college recommendation.

Sounds like AP music theory is just about getting another AP in. At some schools it’s a notoriously hard class, may not help your gpa, after all. And adcoms will look at your transcript and look for it to make sense. How does music theory fit into your academic interests?

Btw, rather than scoot off loading up on whatever APs, why not take a look at the colleges that may be your targets and learning a little about how admissions works. They have recommended course prep, how many years in what fields. And it’s not weighted gpa, it’s not “he with the most AP wins,” and they do often require a full 3 years of foreign language. Plus so many hs don’t rank now.
