Confused about applying

I am still a sophomore but I am confused about the application process. I was reading through the application for Michigan and they were talking about applying to specific schools like business, art & design, education, etc. Do I have to make a decision on a major this early, or was I mistaking that application for another one?

Hi!

Some Universities have students apply to the various colleges (like engineering, etc) because each college/major might have some different req’ts. Such as…the College of Engineering might have higher requirements for math and sciences.

However, not all universities require you to apply to a college. Many let you just apply to the university without declaring a major and without applying directly to a college.

If UMich is your “top school,” then you have more than a year to figure out which college to apply to. UMich has a College of Literature, Sciences, and the Arts which offers a wide variety of majors.
What are your favorite subjects? Do you have a career in mind.

I am thinking about a business major (Ross) but I also enjoy subjects like psychology, astronomy, journalism, and history. But for Ross, they make you apply for preferred admission, so I assume that it would be like doing it a year early when you should apply end of freshman year?

Also, is the LSA college like a 4 year honors program or is it for specific subjects? Could I attend it without intending to major in something like foreign language?
