Confused about community college and AP classes

I took statistics at a community college and got an A, but now my school offers statistics AP....is there any reason I should take statistics AP? Will it look good on my college application? I already have college credit for statistics so what would happen if I took the AP test? Any advice appreciated.

If youve already taken statistics then u dont need to take ap statistics too, it covers the same material i think, becuase aps are supposed to be a replacement for freshman level college classes.

How about try comparing the syllabi?

How old do you have to be to take community college courses? Is there a limit of some kind?

Commmunity college registration rules are different for each college (just like universities) - check with your local community college for more info. As for the OP, depending on where you want to go to college, the community college credit may not transfer. If you're looking to go out of state or to a private college, you may want to review the material and take the AP exam in May. There's no need to take the class if you've already taken a stats cllass

At my local community college, they gave high school students an extreme discount.. only $3 per unit. I took government and econ at the local community college to avoid my high school's evil gov/econ teacher. Those classes were so rediculously easy too.. all these dumb college kids were being slaughtered by the only high school kids in the class.

I took the classes at my university that the AP classes gave me units for (calc/chem)... learned some new things that were definatly not covered at my highschool and weren't tested on the AP exam. So now my AP units don't even count anymore.. but those 6 units from the community college satisfied two of my general education social sciences requirements! I am forever grateful for that :) I know all of you high school kids think AP classes are so important, but from the effort involved.. I think the community college classes are a better deal... no point in taking the AP class if you've already done the college course

We have a few community colleges around my area. They are modestly priced. I was just wondering what are the pros and cons of taking a class at a community college?

In Texas, any HS student can go to CC for free. I'd take History over there since my school ahs no AP history, but my school wont give credit for outside courses unless its because you failed one at school

"In Texas, any HS student can go to CC for free" Woah... Is this something new? It's my understanding that the rules for HS students are determined by each individual college. Until last year, there used to be a very steep discount for high school students at my local CC, but last year, they charged us full price for dual credit and other CC courses. Where in TX are you?

Yea, that's the same in Ohio. Any HS can go to a public college for PSEO for free.

Yes, can you elaborate on that "free in Texas" thing? Because I'm definitely paying tuition at my local CC as we speak.

I live in California, and high school students here can take up to 12 units each semester at a community college free of charge!

This thread has gone a bit off topic, so would it be a good idea to take statistics AP just to boost up my gpa?

Taking statistics once is boring enough as it is. (No offense to any budding statisticians, I'm just cranky because I had to take the final tonight!) I can't imagine covering the same material twice in a short period of time. Personally, I wouldn't do it.

You're lucky.

^ That statement is somewhat misleading. I just finished taking CC courses over the summer, and I had to pay full price, even though my dad is the president of that CC college. I don't know where in Texas you are from, but if you live near the gulf coast then it is not free at all and you also don't get a discount.

In New Jersey high-achieving high school students can go for free... after they graduate.

so has anyone been in this position before?

you know....i think you're in the same position as i am....
i mean i look at this way....
(since i'm in ca too) -comm. collg. classes are free
-you don't have to take ap exams (stessful and cost $80)
-and you probably would get a good teacher (since they mostly have a phD degree or a masters degree)

i would rather take all of my ap classes in community college classes...
but, i have to admit, one beneficial thing about ap classes are that they boost your gpa....making your rank even higher...
anyways...back to your problem....if you could find any other subtitution for that ap stat. (like ap psych. or ap sciences or ap art or anything like that) take it......if you're schedulle is very restricted and you don't have any other ap classes that would replace it....i would say 'take it'....wouldn't hurt you none, right?
well....good luck...
oh, and p.s., also be careful in taking community college classes....some colleges might not accept their credits.....if you want to check whether your credit transfers or not go to www.assist.org....
