I have one son who is a student at Cal Poly (OOS) and I’m helping my other son with his application (the application has changed a lot). My son took a few classes at his high school where he was offered community college credit as well (dual enrollment). These classes show up on his high school transcript and also on his community college transcript. I am leaning towards only entering these as regular high school classes and not entering them as college classes because when I do his GPA goes down. One year of a class where you select “College” gives you 2 years of credit but that dilutes the GPA (his goes down). He already has plenty of credits for the A-G areas and doesn’t need these to meet the requirements. I called admissions and they didn’t have an explanation for the GPA going down, but said to add them because they give extra weight to college classes. My son already has the maximum though of 8 semesters of AP classes. Anyone else encountered this or have any advice? Thanks in advance.
@Kitty33 just curious if this year long college class that was taught at the high school would typically be a semester long class if taken at the college. If so it may make sense not to double the credit/term. I am pretty sure you would need to include the classes on his record but may have some flexibility in how it’s done.
@my2caligirls yes, two of the high school classes were 1 semester long and he was given 5 credits at the college for each. The college is on the quarter system.
I decided to call the admissions office back again, and this time I got an answer that I could better understand. For classes that are on the high school and a college transcript here’s what I was told to do:
-List the classes only in the high school course section but the type should be “College”
-List the college where credit was granted, in the colleges attended section but do enter the specific classes because this would cause them to be double counted.
-Check the box that says not entering any college transcripts.
