confused about financial aid/expenses?

so i've checked my financial aid package from psu on my elion and am completely confused as to what it all means. i understand the "student aide program"- that's just the scholarships, loans etc

what i don't get is the "estimated costs for 2010-2011

Estimated Costs Fall 2010 Spring 2011 Total

Charges on your bill

Tuition & Fees
Estimated Bill Subtotal

Expenses not on your bill

Off-campus Room & Meals
Books & Supplies
Transportation
Miscellaneous
Estimated Non-Billable Expenses Subtotal** $
Estimated Total Costs

i've copied and pasted what i have (minus the money) . what is "off campus room & meals"? is that simply room and board? why would it be off camps though?

I would guess you didn’t indicate that you would live on campus. Penn State doesn’t control off campus housing but they are giving you a guesstimate of the cost.

yeah i have the same deal with “off-campus housing”… must not mean anything cause I definitely said that I wanted to be on-campus (in the honors college) and freshman are even required to live on-campus the first year if they are not commuting.

when did you say you wanted to be on-campus? I was accepted in the honors college too and never said anything about housing yet…

i thought i indicated that somewhere on my application… not sure now though… but either way i wouldn’t worry about it. If you wanted to call the office of financial aid to clear that up im sure they would be willing to help

@jenko
Penn state gives you the housing and food contract after you accept your offer and sent in your admissions fees and housing deposit.

oh, thanks for clearing that up!!

Anyone know anything about The Pointe off-campus housing?
