I am a sophmore and I know I should not worry about college
But I just took the PLAN and the PSAt test and I am really freaked out
Also, I started getting my first college propoganda

the term has not ended for me but I tried figuring out my GPA for my freshman year-I figured it out to be a 3.55-is a 3.55 good or anything or a good start to build on

I am not sure if I am doing enough EC's my list looks so mediocre to other people's-but then they are geniuses and don't live an hour away from school like I do
Anyway here is my short list

I have earned my silver award in eigth grade-25 hours of community service
I am working on my gold-I am on the first part earnig my leadership award I and my gs friend are organizing a thinking day for all the girl scouts in my area
hope you can help the ramblings of a paronoid tenth grader
Future thanks

I would say its quality rather than quantity. Don't simply attend ECs to add it to a giant resume list, do ECs that you enjoy. Do ECs that you want to spend the time doing, that way.... when it comes time to make your application, let it be known that you are doing your ECs because you like to, because your are passionate about them.... not because they are there.

I am pretty passoniate about the things I do-I guess I really meant to ask how can I show that and how to bring my ECs to the next level
Thanks for the people who have responed
Can anyone tell me about my GPA is it okay or how to improve it

it's alrite for schools like 20-50... if you want ivy or anything, get it a bit higher... but about the ec's make a commitment and try to get into leadership positions

Future Thanks

Hey thanks for the complements...I don't know how I do it lol. I know my grades are good to some people but my school is very competitive. I'm not one of those "genius" kids though, because there are a lot of kids in my classes that are so much smarter than me but they're those "lazy genius" types, which really holds them back. I'm one of those kids that just has to work hard and study all the time (and hopefully the fact that I'm a URM will help :). One example is my English teacher's son. My AP Euro teacher (who is director of the Scholars Academy) is crazy about that kid (he's a senior though). He scored a 1560 on his old SAT and retook it so he got a 1600, he got a 2340 on his new SAT, he's an AP State Scholar, went to the national level for National History Day, National Merit commendation, and he is taking 6 AP classes this year (guidance won't let him take any more than that). But the person I respect most at our school is definitely our student body president because she does so much and still manages to be one of the top ranked students at our school. She's taking 4 AP classes (and has at least a 90 in all of her classes), she has a job during the week (that would kill me with her work load), and she has a full workload-the standard 7 periods during the day as well as a early bird and late bird class. Plus, I still see her at the movies sometimes haha. So in general, I find it helps to have a role model or someone you want to work up to...that's what makes me work the hardest.
JUST AS A SIDE NOTE, I know most of the kids on here are like the students I described but at the time he was the smartest person I had ever seen haha.

Cujoe169, you probably know more than me. Also, for some of my extracurricular activities, we attend things such as the National Service Learning Conference and NASC National Conference, would those be the type of things you would put on college applications?

Wait, BLAZER, you're top 5% with a 3.83 GPA? I want to go to your school!! Is that weighted? Jeez. I hate my school for not weighting stuff.

DON'T get a C or D in Euro. Colleges will look at individual grades, not just the GPA - that's why they request the transcript. C+, maybe ok, but aim for B - or heck, why not an A?

Lol no thats a 3.83 un-weighted. We haven't gotten our 2nd quarter report cards yet but as of last week, my teacher said I had a 73 in AP Euro. I don't know how to figure out my weighted GPA haha. Though, for some encouragement I guess, I know one of my friends got maybe 3 C's for his final averages on his report card last year and still was ranked 32/400 (so still top 10%). His GPA was around 3.0 un-weighted and a 4.0 weighted.

I looked at your first post on this thread and I noticed that you already had a idea where to go to college
I just wanted to ask if at your school you already starting talking to a Guidance Counslar
Also I wanted to ask about my GPA really quick-like what is a 3.55 equal to-i figured B+ or B average not sure though. Also an explanation for why my GPA is so low-C+ average in Algerbra 1-Will this really kill me when I apply to colleges- my school gives out effort grades as well I had an A for effort in that class will that help at all
