Hi everyone, we are in a new public high school, and I am quite confused about some issues in the school. I send an email to the counselor asking questions, but cannot get any reply. We are a 1000+ school, and I understand the counselor is quite busy. So what can we do if the counselor cannot help? is it normal that if we are in a public high school, we cannot expect much help from counselor? thank you

Stop by or call his/her office instead if it’s important, and make an appointment.

I can’t get an answer from my son’s GC and there are only 132 kids in the senior class.

Not everyone gets every email, so there’s a chance they didn’t get it.

I would call.

Do you know how many counselors there are for the 1000 students? Right now they are primarily focused on the senior class, with senior advising regarding college apps, letters of recommendaton, post-grad employment or other post-grad plans. Our counselor always preferred email but if it’s been over a week since you emailed I would call. Public schools vary in the quality of counseling. We were satisfied with our school but our kids were low maintenance.

Some high school counseling offices are not very helpful. Get whatever literature they have and keep coming here.

What sort of issues are confusing?
I’d recommend attending a PTA meeting or reading the student handbook before expecting the gc to take time away from putting out fires to answer questions whose answers may be found elsewhere.

Why send an email? Pick up the phone!!!
