What is the role of income brackets in the college admission process? Does having two parents who work and have well paying jobs help? Or does it help to be poverty-stricken? Is this important to colleges? Sorry for the bombardment of questions, I am just curious.
Your academics are weighed in context by those that evaluate holistically (most US colleges don’t practice this – your transcript and test scores are king).
But for the handful of schools that do look at non-transcript/test score factors: if you have a 2200 SAT but come from a >$25K household and attended poorly resourced schools, it’ll be notable. If you have a 2200 SAT but your engineer dad and radiologist mom’s salary can pay for your constant SAT prep and your travel soccer or sailing hobby, it says something else.
