I was admitted to Tulane EA. I found out online last week, and received my formal letter today. There was no mention of merit money, and after doing some research, realized this meant I didn't get any merit aid. I have a 4.1 weighted GPA and a 32 on the ACT, 33 if it's superscored..I understand that my GPA is a bit low, but my friend who has about the same grades as me with less challenging classes and a 31 on the ACT received $19,000. Is it normal for aid to be skewed this way? Can I/should I appeal this?

They probably received $17,000 because I don’t think there is a $19,000 award. But whatever, I think your best course of action is to wait until you have your first semester grades from this year. Assuming they are better than your GPA so far, say 3.75 as opposed to 3.4, then get that to Tulane and, pointing out your high test scores and the strong semester, ask them to reconsider you for a merit scholarship. This was a successful approach numerous times last year, but only for those who were borderline. Although it also worked for students moving from one scholarship to the next higher one, including sometimes getting into the Honors Program when they were not initially invited.

Yeah, I meant 17,000. My bad. And that sounds like a great idea. Thank you very much! I already have received a 3.7 as my first quarter GPA; hopefully the second quarter will be just as good if not better…Thanks again!
