I’m a NMF. My EFC at most schools is about 50k. If I were to get into Boston University and be selected for the national merit finalist scholarship (25k/year), would this be in addition to my need-based scholarship (likely for about 30k)? or would it essentially replace most of my need-based aid and I would only get ~5k in aid?
basically the question is:
do merit aid and need-based aid stack on top of each other?
This varies by college. Call BU and ask if they stack need based and merit aid. I have no idea, but the folks at BU will!
School by school.
Some stack merit and need. Some don’t.
Some say on the website. I don’t see BU. I’d call or email financial aid at the schools of interest to ask if they stack need and merit or replace need with merit.
Good luck.

Interesting that I found this:
Continuing the discussion from aid stackability at these schools?:
I wrote that post. My kid was at BU from 2003-2007…and a lot has changed since then. BU didn’t meet full need when my kid was there either.
I think you need to call BU now…and ask about current policy.
