I am graduating with my AAOT in a week and I was wondering if I could use that to get a bachelors of science. I told my adviser that eventually I want to major in engineering or computer science and she told me that this degree will put my on the right track. I am really confused and my adviser hasn't really helped me because I have heard from other sources that because it's an associates of art degree that I will be behind. I meet with an adviser from the university I am transferring to in a couple of weeks so I'm hoping that she can help me, but I figured that I would ask here first.

If your CC has a formal articulation agreement for the major that you want at the public university that you are interested in, and you have fulfilled the requirements for that agreement, there shouldn’t be any problem at all in getting into the major that you want.

If there isn’t an agreement for the major, just for general admissions, then you need to find out you have to do to get admitted to the major that you want.

This sort of thing can be very specific to the CC and the university, so look through both websites and see what you can find out before your meeting with your advisor. That way you will know some of the questions that you will need to ask during that meeting.

Wishing you all the best!

What is AAOT?

Associate Art of Transfer

Is this in Oregon? From the links I can find with Google, it looks like an AAOT guarantees that you will have met all of the general education requirements if you attend a public U in OR. In that case, all you would have left would be the major requirements for whatever major it is that you get yourself admitted to. So you do need to speak with your advisor and find out how to organize your program so that you can fit all of the classes in in the right order if there are a bunch that have per-requisites.

Oh I’m sorry I should have specified. Technically yes it is for “Oregon”, but they have a transfer agreement with the school that I will be attending in Boise Idaho (BSU). So it sounds like all of the general requirements will be met although one thing that I was wondering about is the pre requisites for math like calculus and physics.

I’m wondering if I can take those at the university will working towards my B.S. or how that will work out. I’m not sure how an A.A. can transition into a B.S I have taken pre calc, stats, and trig at my current school already. And sorry for my spelling/grammar it’s 2 am

Look at the requirements for the major, and see how they fit together. Some will be prerequisites for others, and some will have prerequisites from other departments. Then see if you can draw up a plan that will allow you to get all of those courses done in just four semesters. If you can’t, take a look at what is offered this summer so you have a notion of what classes you might be able to take during a future summer term.

Depending on the courses you have to take, you might find out that you have to be there for more than just two years.
