Senior year is quickly approaching, and my plans for which colleges I will be applying to are rather blurry. I live in Pennsylvania, and I'm hoping to attend an out-of-state college. This hope to get away often makes it difficult in my college search, as I don't have anyone I know who has attended these universities. Some information about myself:
-3.5 GPA
-1780 SAT March 2011; Plan to retake October 2011
-1 AP as Sophomore, 3 AP's as Junior, 3 AP's as senior
-Several Honors classes each year (4 each year)
-JV/Varsity Basketball Freshman and Sophomore years
-Varsity Softball Freshman year-present
-Club Softball (3 Teams)
-Active in Church/youth group
-Leo Club
-Prom Committee
-Volunteered as a softball coach for 13 and under girls Freshman and Junior year
-Volunteer at the Humane League
-Honor Roll

I plan to take the ACT in September of 2011, and I plan on retaking my SAT in October, as I'm sure that I can score about 200 higher. I was feeling sick when I took it in March (maybe nerves, I don't know), and had not fully prepared. I intend to have a final score of about 1900-2000.

Some of the colleges I have seriously looked into are: West Virginia University, East Carolina University, and The University of Mississippi. I'd like schools that are about the same caliber as those. If anyone has any information about these colleges, or any suggestions to broaden my college search, I'd really appreciate it!

Is your 3.5 GPA weighted or unweighted?

It’s about a 3.15 unweighted, 3.78 weighted. My guidance counselor said that if I get all A’s the first semester with my heavy workload, it will be about a 3.5 unweighted.

What can you afford? There will be OOS cost to attend an OOS school. Aren’t there any in state public schools in PA you can look at? Have you tried using the CC’s SuperMatch search tool for your searches?

Cost is not a huge factor, I just want to find the school of my dreams, regardless of the pricetag. I want to get away from Pennsylvania, preferably more than 4-5 hours away. I used collegeboards college-match-search to find a wide variety of colleges across the country, but as I mentioned previously, it makes me a bit uneasy not having a first-hand account from someone reliable telling me about the college.

There is no magical school of your dreams. Are your PARENTS willing to pay for your school of choice?
I don’t think it’s possible to bring your cum UW GPA up from a 3.15 to a 3.5 in one semester unless you take more than the equivalent of a full year of classes in that semester.

Cost is not a huge issue.
I’m just going off of what my counselor told me with the GPA. Regardless, none of my top schools are extremely difficult to get into so with my credentials it shouldnt be a huge issue. I would really like to go to the University of Mississippi, I just find it somewhat nerve-racking that I won’t know anyone who goes there or who has gone there.
