i am taking the october SAT and trying to raise SAT score to 1400 with hopefully 700 CR score. my may test breakdown was (630 CR 710 math). during the past two weeks, i've been practicing with the blue book, but the scores i am getting have huge gap. i've been getting 1390, 1490, 1440, but the last one was 1320 (score based on the number i got wrong compared to the number wrong in may test. i am so confused. why is there such a huge gap...i was feeling pretty good about CR at one point (even got 740) but now i seem to not be able to even understand the passage. i am really nervous and scared. does anyone have similar situasion or know how much practice scores correlates to the actual scores? thanks

Actually, the same thing (kind of) has happened to me. I scored more than 150 points lower (between M, CR, and W) on my practice test today compared to the tests I've taken previous. I'm worried because it's the most recent test I've taken (I took a practice test on saturday), and I'm not especially satisfied with it. I'm taking the SAT I on the 8th. By the way, the practice test I took today was #3 from the online course. What should I do? :(

There's an exceedingly simple and pragmatic reason why you guys are scoring low at this time. Think about it, 3 days before the test, you're almost counting on the last practice tests to be awesome because you feel they are the best predictors of how you will do on saturday, but that all generates way too much stress and nervousness, as you both stated you guys are having. You know what guys, honestly, just relax, you both will be fine, just remember that on test day when you read the passage read it to its entirity so you are CONFIDENT you understand the passage. All I would say to do for the rest of today/tom is brush up on some vocab lists, maybe read part of a school reading book as you would in the actual SAT (try to understand it) and also, brush up on some grammer (past perfect tense, subjunctive, etc). Other than that, you guys should be fine, you both are ready, don't freak out, just be confident and THINK you will do well. Last, but definitely not least, do NOT do a THING on friday, just go to sleep VERY early (DON'T COME TO THIS WEBSITE!!!), and wake up saturday feeling fresh and energized. Hopefully that helps =)

I've been trying to take it easy and not stress too much about the SATs, but it's the last chance I'll get and I'll tell myself, "why didn't I just prepare the last few days before the test" if I don't get a satisfactory score.. :( I know how I sound right now, but I can't help it! :o

Anyway, has anyone actually looked at TCB's essay examples of a 6, 5, 4, etc.? They seem so bogus. I mean, who can write an equivalent of TCB's 6/6 essay in 25 minutes..?

I also found that I could barely understand the passages. I must have spent a lot of time on some questions (I didn't really notice at the time), leaving me with very little time throughout the rest of each section. Ugh.. I'm gonna have an ulcer before this is all done!

I got a 12 when I took the test in March, it's really not that hard, just focus on being clear and supportive with your essay.

Bump

I need some type of reassurance lol.. I feel like any more "practice" will ultimately be a waste of time. Help!

P.S.- To be more specific, I've been scoring in the upper 600's on CR, but after taking a full-length test, I scored in the low 600's/high 500's. I'm feeling so discouraged, because after all this practice, I apparently made virtually no progress, however I'm hoping this is a fluke. Any reasonable explanation? It may have been the fact that Oct. 8 is in less than a week, but I honestly just couldn't read the passages well enough and I felt rushed throughout most of the reading passages. :(

Some of the practice tests are harder than the others. In particular, the online practice tests, with the exception of the Pre-Test and Online Practice Test #6 (the old Pre-Test), especially the Critical Reading and Math sections, are more difficult (sometimes much more difficult) than the exams in the Official SAT Study Guide. To estimate your scores on these exams, take the higher end of the score range (as provided by the score report you generate with the exam) and subtract 10 points from it. That should give you a realistic idea of the scores.

Godot, would you say the questions are harder or the passages in general are more difficult (or both)?

The questions seemed pretty straightforward (not THAT straightforward but nothing out of the ordinary), but the passages literally went over my head!

relax dude... just about every prep book in the market tells u to relax the week before test day

I'm trying to relax, but the feeling of not understanding the passages is all too familiar. It's what virtually happened to me on test day (previous) and well.. I got an unsatisfactory score :(

man u have 3 days left, there is nothing u can do about it. You can review some math formulas, brush up some grammar rules, read some magazines and hope for the best

Yeah, that's true, but it's hard not to worry :o

lol... u're replying like every 5mins, no wonder you're worried

Yeah :o I'm gonna study now, but I'll still worry. I have a feeling if I go in taking the test OVERLY confident, I'll regret now worrying (even though worrying doesn't do anything lol..)

sort of similar vein...except for the psat's vs. sat's. psat's are in a week...and my scores are so wierd. im getting everything from 220's to 202's to 230's, while my practice test for the sat was bout 2000. stress is definitely not a factor, so kind of confused about the differences
