Confused about orientation and dorms... Please Help

So I’ve been accepted to UT, but I’m not sure if this is going to be my college, and although it is highly likely I’m going to UT, I want to wait until I hear back from all my colleges plus get a financial aid package from UT before I make a decision.

But I don’t know if I should wait until April to accept, because housing contracts are already being offered and orientation sign-up has opened, and I don’t want to miss an opportunity to get an affordable dorm or the classes I want/need during orientation. I’m just really confused about the whole process, because how am I supposed to make a decision when my financial aid package hasn’t even been released yet??

Anyways, I got into Honors, and is it true that people in honors get first pick for classes? How does that work, since sign-up for classes is in orientation? And am I guaranteed an honors dorm if I get into Honors, or is that first come first serve as well?

Go ahead and “accept” your offer of admission and pay the deposit (it s refundable if you change your mind on or before May1). This will allow housing to release a contract to you based on your place in date order of when you submitted your housing application (presumably when you submitted your application). This will also allow you to sign up for Orientation. You do not have to accept your Honors offer of admission at this time. Priority for class selection is not determined by honors status but rather based on the number of credits a student has…the more credits you have, the earlier your assigned course selection time window during Orientation and in future semesters…so lots of AP/dual credit credits will give you priority. Some courses are offered in honors sections only (true for BHP and possibly others) so of course only honors students may register for those classes.

@CollegeParent123 but I heard that you are not allowed to accept your offer if you still want other colleges to consider you… I mean, I don’t know how a college could find out if I’ve accepted another college, but if they do, does that mean I’m withdrawing my application from other colleges? Or can I just decline later and still be considered for other places? Thank you for your answer.

You can accept at UT but you then have to go back in and change your accept to reject before you accept at another college. You cannot accept at two places at the same time.

@CorpusChristi Oh ok, thanks! I’ll do that.

I’ve been UT for 3 years and I think the only factor that differentiate people’s registration time is their credit hours. That means the more credits you have the early your registration window opens, that’s why seniors usually register the earliest and got all the classes they want to graduate on time. Being an Honor student means you can register the classes that only open to Honors but that is not going to prioritize your registration time. Hope this helps
