Confused about paying for tuition and housing

So on I log onto URSA and on my Bruinbill Account (BAR) I have a balance of $3800 on my student account even though I have enough financial aid to cover my tuition. Also, when I try to make a payment for housing it says to enter in my own amount of money to pay. It doesn't tell me how much housing is. Anybody know why? Has it not been updated or something?

the problem is we don’t even know if the financial aid is gonna come in time before the tuition/housing payment due, which is really sucks. ucla got lazy

actually it’s due to the ca state budget committee. they havn’t made their fisical budjet yet and they’re months behind. so all the Uc’s are basically going thru some sort of “withdrawal” lol (cause u know money is suuuuch a drug). we just gotta wade it thru and hope for the best…or do our part and actually vote for a better governor?

Mark Yudof wants our $$

Tuition Due Date for Fall: September 20th
Financial Aid Disbursement Date for Fall: September 13th

So I’m guessing you don’t have to do anything. Just wait until the 13th and your tuition should be taken care of by financial aid automatically.

Despite whatever’s going on with the state budget, we’re going to get our promised financial aid. UC’s will pay whatever CA can’t right now and eventually once CA works out its budget, the universities will get reimbursed.
We just got to wait it out…

Rattus is right, just wait till the 13th. If it’s not showing up on URSA by a few days after the 13th, then you can worry. (FYI, there have been quarters where financial aid was actually distributed after the 20th deadline, but if you took out enough financial aid to cover all of your fees then you won’t be fined.)

Also, the housing website never tells you how much you have to pay, you’re always going to have to enter in the amount you owe yourself. Use this page to look up the type of housing/meal plan you got and the payment plan you chose to figure out how much you owe: [2010-2011 Contract Housing Rates and Payment Plans (1004377)](http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/1004377)

raychul07: Then what happens if you pay too much or too little for housing?

like other people said, for BAR, wait until the 13th, and you will see that your financial aid will be deducted from the $3800. Also, sometimes the financial aid doesn’t get distributed until after the 20th. Only start worrying/calling fin aid after the 20th. If you were promised fin aid but they didn’t disperse it you shouldn’t be fined.

For housing, you CAN see how much you owe. Go to https://access.housing.ucla.edu/account.php

and click on “view account info” on the left. It will show exactly how much you owe, so no guesswork is needed.

So does that work for loans too? I didn’t get any financial aid so me and my parents took out the most in Parent Plus/Direct Subsidized/Direct Unsubsidized as we could. So after September 13, will the money from the loans automatically be applied to the current balance of $3,500 (mine is a little less because I waived SHIP).

Also, what are all these current fees? I think it says I have a little over $9,000 in loans for fall quarter. What is the rest of the money for?

Last question, when do we find out when we have to make payments for housing? Will we get email reminders?
