Confused about personal application

Ive been offered a personal application with no fee, automatic scholarship consideration, etc. Im confused though because it says it must be submitted by November 1st. Isnt this the EA deadline?

Yes; Tulane doesn't have ED (as far as I know). Instead they have the regular application (common app and whatnot) and then the personal application. The personal application is EA, yes, but it is non-binding and non-exclusive.

But what if i dont want to apply EA?

^^then don't apply early. (btw: The Personal App is more rolling, than EA.)

Is there a downside to applying early, other than forcing you to get your paperwork organized and knowing there is at least one school where you are admitted? I think not...

None whatsoever - in fact, applying early to Tulane increases your chances of getting in (not so at all schools). As Bluebayou said, the personal app is rolling to an extent - the early you apply the more likely you are to get in and the more likely you are to receive a better scholarship offer. Especially if this year is anything like last year in terms of how many applications the school receives.

I got the same offer from Tulane, and I'm thinking about doing it. However, does this eliminate me from applying early to other schools? The thing is, I was planning on applying to Yale Single Choice Early Action, and Yale's site says, "you may apply to another college's early notification program under certain conditions. First, you may apply to a public university's "rolling" admission program if the program is non-binding (meaning that you have until May 1 to respond). So even though Tulane's special early program is rolling, does it matter that it's a private institution? Can someone tell me why Yale put "public" there?

No. You CANNOT apply to both Tulane and Yale single-choice early action. Tulane is an early action plan that ACTS in a rolling matter (in that you get a quick admission decision), however, it is still early action. Yale means that you could apply, for instance, to Ohio State which has rolling and is public. Only apply to Yale.

^^I might e-mail Yale and ask them.

In the past few years, Tulane has offered both EA AND the Priority App. The Priority App was rolling (guaranteed a response in four weeks), whereas the EA deadline was Nov 1.

OP - You can submit a Personal Application for either EA or RD, as shown on the top right portion of the Web link below. But as many previous posters have indicated, EA gives you a much better shot at admission.
