Confused about Prereq timing (for UC's)

Some background info:

I go to De Anza College (CCC)
I'm finishing up my third quarter there
I'm an aspiring Econ / Bus Econ major
I'm going to be working towards becoming TAP certified in the fall

I am a bit confused as to how the UC admissions will gauge our applications. I plan on applying this fall, but the question I have is will the UC's pretty much only be looking at our first year's worth of coursework? Will it significantly hurt my chances if I haven't taken most of the major prereq by this fall? For UCLA, I still have English 1b and Calculus 1b left for my prereqs, but I was planning on taking those this fall.

I guess my question is essentially, how much does the timing of our completion of major prereqs really factor in?

I don't think timing means much just that you complete it. My friend pretty much took all the prereqs and tap the year he applied(his second year at ccc) and got in with like a 3.7 for bizecon at ucla. He took 6 classes this semester all of them needed to complete prereqs/tap so timing didn't mean much in.

thank you so much, that is such a huge relief!

no.

they prefer to see the grades for major prep courses, especially competitive majors.

New rule for UCLA Fall 2008 Business Econ transfers: a year of accounting is required by spring prior to transfer.

Just a heads up; if you already knew, sorry for wasting your 5 seconds.

keerey's friend is an exception. TAP usually gives people special treatment. If you're not planning to do TAP, make sure you have a significant amount of prep courses completed by the time of application. I read that in some guide.

'significant amount'

pretty much means...

2/3

3/4

4/5

that sort of percentage, right?

Most UC campuses should be requiring all required coursework to be completed by the end of the spring term prior to the fall term you are enrolling. You will also be completing an Application Update form in the winter to send updated coursework and grades to the UC campuses. For coursework planned in the spring semester (winter/spring quarters) the UC will assume you will complete the courses with appropriate grades. All the UC campuses can be different so it is best to always contact the campus you are interested in to confirm everything.

If your last two prereqs are taken this fall, that's perfectly fine. Make sure to finish your igetc by spring prior to transfer also. I was just accepted to UCLA as Pre bizecon. I also finished the accounting sequence. --It is required for 08 applicants--

Accounting and calc1b aren't easy courses and I wouldn't bog down your fall semester because it is heavily weighed into the admissions process. You'll submit your fall grades to UCLA. And no one can emphasize it enough, you must finish tap if you're planning to attend UCLA! otherwise chances are slim to get accepted to an impacted major.

Good luck! if you have any more questions just keep this thread going.

so should one take the harder classes the spring semester before transfer, so potentially poor grades aren't a factor? or is taking it in the fall still preferable

Significant amount of prereqs would mean not taking all your prereqs the spring prior to transfer.

I am a transfer student to UCLA majoring in business econ and I didn't finish all my prerequisites until spring of this year. They want to see that you finished most of your prereqs and that you are planning on taking the remaining prereqs before you transfer.

some "impacted" majors want you to finish all the pre-reqs.
