confused about recs..

<p>i know for all schools where i apply online, i can ask my teachers to just mail in their recs seperately.</p>

<p>but at NYU and USC, i plan to apply to recorded music/music industry programs.... so, two questions:</p>

<p>1) for USC, they want the teachers to send the letter "directly to the Thornton Admission Office," so i assume that means they want me to mail my completed thorton supplementary app, and they want the teacher to mail the rec seperately. if this is true, my question is, how do they identify the letter as mine?</p>

<p>2) for NYU, the requirements (<a href="http://clivedavisdept.tisch.nyu.edu/object/ugrmusicportfolio.html%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://clivedavisdept.tisch.nyu.edu/object/ugrmusicportfolio.html&lt;/a&gt;) seem to say that the rec has to be included in the portfolio. So, does this mean that i'm supposed to do the whole supplementary application, then, once it's finished, give it to my teacher, who will then put in the rec and mail the whole thing? or can i mail in my supplementary app and ask my teacher to mail her app in seperately..... or is she supposed to give me her letter which i then mail with the app? i'm pretty confused.</p>

<p>That said, I'm pretty sure you're supposed to write your name and social security (or is it social insurance?) number on the letter, so the admissions committee know which applicant the letter belongs to.</p>
