Hi,

I've been looking at the Stanford website and I've been trying to work out the overall fees per year. I've gotten it to add up to $26,541 so far; that's including tuition, housing, housing dues and meals. What else should I add to the amount because it doesn't seem right for an American university.

Also, is there a way of just getting the final fee for everything (e.g. most unis in the UK are £9,000) or do I have to add up everything individually as I'm doing?

Thank you!

Did you multiply the tuition by 3? There are 3 quarters in their school year…

Thanks for your reply.

Yep, that seems like a plausible suggestion! :)

Expect the straight up final fee to be in the 52 thousand range. Some people calculate the exact number, shouldn’t be too hard to find. Although some room and board fees are cheaper than others- they probably go with the standard dorm room and board fee.

My prior bill balance says $20,334. Does that include everything, including tuition, dorms and meals? In the financial statement, it was written that we will need approximately 58k for a year. 26k * 3 = 78k is a lot higher than that :S.

Finally, it seems that different dorms have different dorm prices. My friend in FroSoCo has a lower bill than me. Is there a way for us to know the different dorm prices?

^I think OP did the math wrong.

You can find the different dorm prices somewhere online.

So does the stated bill fee include everything?

Easy. When it’s confusing, google “cost of attendance.”
[The Student Budget : Stanford University](<a href=“Financial Aid : Stanford University”>Financial Aid : Stanford University)

That doesn’t help. I’m talking about the actual bill I’m paying.

And, maybe you should call the school. I offered the link for OP.

Whoa! how does one afford the $58K tuition/fees for Stanford? Guess that is a different topic…

I would imagine for the OP to come up with 26K its because she is including some fees like New Student Orientation, mailbox etc that only are charged once a year. Also she may be including health insurance. If you have your own health insurance you can disregard that fee which was $1200 for the year.

The charges on the actual bill are as follows:
dorm cost
dorm house dues
dining plan
communication fee
tuitiion
UG student activities fee
campus health services fee (this is not the same as the health insurance fee)
(Those fees listed above are charged each quarter)

then there are the one time fees:
documentation fee (this you pay every year just the first quarter)
health insurance (this you can opt out of if you have your own family insurance)
P.O. Box fee (this you pay every year just the first quarter)
Freshman/transfer orientation ( this you pay just the first quarter of freshman/transfer year)
