I tried searching and I read back 7 pages and I couldn't find what I was looking for. I also tried googling and the commonapp website, but no luck.

Some colleges I am applying to require 2 recommendations, some colleges I am applying to require 1 recommendation. I am going to get 2 professors to write me recommendations but what I am confused about is for the schools that require only one, do I have to pick which professor's recommendation that gets sent there? Does the commonapp just send both?

As for asking for recommendations, I will ask the professors to sign up for the site but should I just assume they know how? Will the commonapp make it clear how they are supposed to find me on there to submit a recommendation for me? I am just really confused, like do I give them my commonapp screen name for them to find me? Or how exactly does it work?

Sorry if these are all really dumb questions..but I am really confused and I can't find any of the information. If all the information is in one location/thread feel free to link me..I don't bother reading.

Im not sure about the number of recs part, but I think for completing online, you put in the teachers’ emails and then they will be able to complete the recs.
My guess for the recs is that only one will be sent because common app will probably know this, but not sure. I haven’t come across any schools that only require 1 that still use common app.

You should pick who you want to write recs for each school. Do this: For teacher A, give them a folder and a note that says, thanks very much for agreeing to write a rec for me. Here are the schools I need recs for and their respective deadlines: college A due this date, college B due this date, C, D, E, F. Here are the forms for each school that need completion and here is an addressed and stamped envelope for each school to mail the rec in. Or, here is the site you go to to submit an on-line rec. Then you do the same for teacher B: thanks, here’s schools, here’s the forms, envelopes, etc. For the school that needs only one rec, you decide which teacher you ask to send a rec. Each school is different: my son’s varied from none (yes, none), to 1 to 2. Also, the counselor will send in a form, too, but that’s considered separate from the teacher recs.

If you are submitting School Forms online, you will be forced to choose which recommendation goes to the schools that only require one. You will “invite” your teachers to the School Forms system through the Common App. You enter their names and emails after you’ve signed in, and the email that is sent to them will link them to their own part of the Common App, and your name will be there for them.

If you are submitting School Forms by paper, follow mom in virginia’s advice.

@pFNMCp I hopefully will be submitting it all online assuming I don’t run into any issues with that. Thank you for your explanation it was really helpful!
