Confused about the core/fsem class

how do u know if a CORE class is a FSEM as well... per semester we have to take one of each?

They're two separate classes. You have to take FSEM first semester. CORE can be taken in any semester as long you finish all the requirements by the end of your sophomore year. People do double up on CORE classes.

There are four core classes you have to take: Modernity, Western Traditions, a Cultures class (lots of options) and a Scientific Perspectives class (lots of options). You can pick one of these classes as your FSEM. If you look on the course offering section on the Colgate website, it will tell you if a FSEM meets these reqs. Modernity and Western Traditions are obvious, but if you look the course offering descriptions on the website, it will say if the class counts as a core class. (For instance, Advent of the Atomic Bomb counts as the Scientific Perspectives core class).
