Confused about when the new SAT policy takes effect.

It says here: New SAT Score-Reporting Policy

that this gets implemented in WINTER 2009?!! Does that mean when Class of '10 specifically is applying to college they can only omit scores after that? As in if I (class of 2010) take a test this fall and don't want to send the score, can I omit it?

FAQs
Q: Will this new score-reporting feature be available to students who register for 2008-09 test dates prior to the launch?
A: Yes. Students who register for a test date that will occur after the Winter 2009 launch of the new score reporting policy will be able to return to update their registration information via the College Board Web site or by calling a toll-free customer service line. If students don't update their registration information, all scores will be sent with their score reports by default.

I believe the FAQ you quote means that you can register before it takes effect & then have it applied retroactively, not that you can actually take a test before it takes effect & then have it applied.

So if you take a test this Fall, I think you won't be able to "erase" it. But if you register tin Fall 08 for a test in January '08, you will.

And that would apply to the SAT II's also? (Sorry to hijack)

yes, it will.

I called the CB and asked them if June SAT scores applied and she said yes,

This junes?!?!?

Its only for the Class of 2010. So 09 can keep moving on.

@ powerbomb: Really? can you post the email?
@ vasudevank: I and a bunch of other CCers are '10.
@ RR119: I read somewhere that it also includes SAT IIs.

The policy applies to past scores as well as scores after March 2009. So, for example if you take the SAT in October, you can still choose after 3/09 not to include Oct in your report. Obviously March '09 is too late for seniors so effectively this policy starts for the class of 2010.

This also applies to the subject tests, although CB clearly specifies choice by test, not by test date, for the subject tests. This seems to suggest that if you retake Math 2, e.g., both scores get sent.

@ fignewton: Thanks so much! Not that I don't believe you, but where on earth did you find that? I looked at the official faq and everything...

@ Pbailey, i called them 4 times to make sure..

@fignewton: can you clear up the "This also applies to the subject tests, although CB clearly specifies choice by test, not by test date, for the subject tests. This seems to suggest that if you retake Math 2, e.g., both scores get sent."??

So if i took math 2 twice and world history twice, and I only decide to send my math 2 scores, it'll show up that I took math 2 twice?

^My info is from http://professionals.collegeboard.com/testing/sat-reasoning/scores/policy but the wording isn't the best.

Q: Is the new score-reporting feature available for both SAT and SAT Subject Tests score reports?

A: Yes. Students will be able to select which scores they send to colleges by sitting (test date) for the SAT and by test for SAT Subject Tests.

So, you could probably interpret the subject test part either way. They may be saying it that way so that it is clear that even if you take math and history on the same day, you can still choose not to report, say, history. Just isn't obvious to me what happens if you take the same subject test on different dates.

@PBailey: also from that url:

Any student who has taken an SAT prior to the policy launch or who registers for the SAT after launch will be able to take advantage of this new policy. The students who have taken tests prior to the launch can use the score-reporting feature retroactively.

At least that is pretty clear!
