I've just finished my junior year in high school, and am still trying to decide what type of college to attend, let alone a specific college. I'm thinking about majoring in Theatre or Technical Theatre, depending on what's available, and a possible minor in Computer Science.
Basically my situation is that my family can't realistically afford to contribute much towards tuition, and while I can probably get into a few decent colleges, my grades aren't going to net me many merit scholarships.
My weighted GPA is somewhere around a 3.9, and my unweighted GPA is around a 3.5. I've a 2050/2400 or 1380/1600 on the SAT, and am still waiting on my ACT scores with a projected 30/31.
I participate in student government, my school's Thespian troupe and Theatre department, and our chapter of the National Arts Honors Society, and I should be eligible for NHS, NTHS, and National Science Honors society next year (I didn't have enough community service for the applications this year).
I do take a lot of rigorous courses, however, with mostly AP classes and a few honors or on-level ones.
My dream school is the Savannah College of Art and Design, but that won't be possible without the majority of tuition covered. I was thinking UMD or Towson would be more likely, but I'm really not sure.
I'd take a year off and work, but considering I'd be 15 when I graduate, there's nowhere in the area that would hire me for about seven months after I graduate, and I wouldn't be able to transport myself either.
Any suggestions of colleges or just what to do in general would be greatly appreciated.

Try posting this in the theater forum on the main page. Few schools offer much for theater scholarships. If you were in OH I would push for Wright State. I don’t know what the comparable school would be in MD.

you say that your parents won’t be able to contribute much, but you might be eligible for financial aid. do you know your EFC?

Check out coastal Carolina. I’ve seen some good comments in theatre forum and your stats would be good at that school in general.

I honestly don’t know our EFC, but we’re mid- to lower-middle class, I believe. One issue is that my mother just started PA school, and parents in college aren’t counted on the FAFSA if I remember correctly.
And I’ll check out coastal Carolina, thanks!
I guess there’s really not much in MD.
