I am a little confused on how colleges view the ACT plus writing score. Will they see my English score as well as my combined English and writing score? Or will they see my essay score and my English score?

I'm confused because the ACT mentions that the essay score does not affect THE COMPOSITE. How does that work if there's a combined english-writing score?

Thank you.

The essay section does not affect your composite since it is optional. If you take the writing section, you will have to separate sub score-- a writing score(out of 12) and a combined english+writing score. College look at both sub score for admission

So… I’m still a little unsure. I understand that colleges will see 1) the essay score out of 12, and 2) the combined english-writing score. But, will the combined score take the place of the English test, or will they also see the plain old English score in addition to numbers 1 and 2?

Colleges will see the following, seperately:

English Score
Math Score
Reading Score
Science Score
Composite Score
Writing Score
English/Writing Combined Score

So basically, everything.

Thank you. That has cleared it all up!
