A few of my friends have gotten their acceptance letters for the USC Honors College (about a week ago; and I saw some people already got their acceptances on this forum) but I was wondering when most people get their letters since the information packets initially said Jan. 7 (getting paranoid lol).

Also, I was offered a full ride to Wofford (Charles E. Daniel Scholarship Finalist, Wofford Scholar, etc.) and was debating between whether I should go to Wofford or the USC Honors College (if I get in lol -- just being optimistic) if attending either would be more-or-less free of charge. I've visited both schools (Wofford twice) and the pros and cons of each school are pretty much equal. After finishing undergrad, I want to go to law school (going to the Duke University Law School would be an absolute dream lol).

However, I'm unsure of which school I should go to and was wondering what you guys would do in my situtation. I've already thoroughly researched each school and each has some program(s) of study I would love to pursue, including studying abroad, etc. I realize it's very difficult to compare the two (LAC vs. National University) but I'm just utterly confused as to which school would be better in terms of post-undergrad ventures (plus, the deadline to reply to Wofford is Jan. 15). Sorry for the long-winded post but I've been wrestling with this decision for the past couple weeks and would really appreciate any input.

Wofford=smaller, lack of athletics if that makes a difference.Major strength at either institution? Does USc mean leaving home ie is Spartanburg your home town?
Please be aware...you can ask Wofford for an extension on the reply deadline..its artificial anyway, meant to make you commit before you really have to (may 1 is national reply date)
If you make Honors at USC and are truly interested in Law School, they have a 6 year combined degree plan which is great..saves you a year and if you have a scholarship they apply it to the Law School tuition.
You could call USC admissions to see if you are in to Honors but probably wont get a human being until Jan 2.

Thanks for the help! Actually, Columbia is my home town lol. I didn't know about the extension on the deadline, although they said that I'm guaranteed the scholarship only until Jan. 15. If I go to Wofford I am going to major in Governmnet (with a concentration in World Politics) and Intercultural Studies. If I go to USC I'll major in Political Science and International Relations. I guess what is pulling me towards Wofford is the fact that my scholarship would go towards studying abroad expenses (which I definitely plan on doing at least once, depending on my final number of AP credits). I'm not sure if studying abroad works the same with USC.

I've talked to people at both schools and they love theire respective colleges. In terms of calling the office, I didn't know I could do that. I'll probably wait a couple days and call on Jan. 2.

Honors students can compete for a 2,000 stipend to study abroad. It seems that everyone who wants it ,gets it.McNair and Carolina Scholars automatically get a 2,000 stipend to use.
Wait till Jan 2 to call, there wont be anyone there today or tomorrow.
Explain your Wofford situation with the scholarship deadline to them.
Theres a whole lot of diference between the size of Wofford and USC, does that make any difference to you?

No, I've visited colleges with a lot of different characteristics (urban, large, small, somewhat rural) and I could see myself happy at each for four years. Thanks for the feedback! The only thing that worries me in terms of admission to the SCHC is my SAT score (1290 one sitting and 1330 superscored) and the fact that my long essay was about 50 words short (glazed over the word recommendation when I started). But I've heard of some students getting in with my score (and let's hope some good ol' affirmative action kicks in -- just kidding, not trying to start some dispute! lol)

Family just returned from a xmas vacation. S had a nice present in the mail, an admission to the SC Honors College. Letter was dated 12/20 but did not arrive until after xmas. He is hoping for a McNair and is looking forward to visiting.

laxdad
congrats to your son!As you probably know already, scholarship letters will come seperately. If you need any info on Columbia/places to stay etc let me know! If he's invited to the McNair wekend, you get free airfare for Son and one parent plus they put you up for the nights you are there.

Even a McKissick with Honors College would be hard to refuse. Good luck with the McNair. Like cathymee said, if you need any help/advice on lodging restaurants etc let me know.

Thanks cathymee & eadad. We are going to wait to see if he gets invited to the McNair weekend to try to save on airfare. I will likely be in touch re: food & lodging, thanks again

I think I got my Carolina Scholars letter at the beginning of February. I was on the student panel last year, and I remember the interviews taking place around the 17th. Winners are notified a week later.
