Hello,

I am currently a freshman at Queensborough Community College and looking to transfer for various reasons.

1) I was accepted to USC (my dream school) as a senior in high school but couldn't attend because my father wouldn't allow me to go all the way to California unless the tution was mostly paid for, or I had a full ride. So I ended up here at CC because I am planning to transfer as a freshman into my sophomore year.

2) I refuse to wait till after my sophomore year to transfer because I cannot live at home because of family issues, and I also want to have the most fufilling Undergrad experience as possible by dorming

I live in New York City, and would prefer to transfer out of state. The schools I am looking into now are Yale University, University of Michigan, USC (still), and University of Penn.
I was wondering what are some other schools I should look into similar to the ones above.

Also, I still am looking to attend USC, but what scholarships can I apply for that can give me enough money to attend.

In conclusion, I know that I have to have major EC in my first year of CC, but I don't know how to go about doing that, because there are not alot of choices, and the ones they do have I am not to interested in them. My major in Business Administration, and I plan on minoring in African-American studies when I can transfer.

Thank You Guys.

Are you referring to outside or institutional scholarships, or both?

I’m assuming you’ve already looked at the USC website:

[USC Financial Aid](http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/grants_scholarships/undergraduates/meritbasedft.html)

They’re pretty vague about how much $ and how many Transfer Merit Scholarships they give; and while there are others available to transfers, they have very restrictive requirements.

You are highly unlikely to get any FA as an OOS student at Michigan. UM has many merit scholarships, but it’s very difficult to determine which are for transfers, how many are given, $ amounts and if they’re renewable:

[University of Michigan Office of Financial Aid: OFA Scholarship Listing](http://www.finaid.umich.edu/types_of_financial_aid/scholarships/ships.asp)

Of course Y and Penn have only need based FA, so I’m assuming you know your ballpark EFC and have a good idea of how much you’d qualify for at these schools.

Like institutional scholarships, outside scholarships for transfers are much more limited as well. I know there are Phi Theta Kappa scholarships, but you’d have to check out the details to see if they’d be an option for you.

Since applications are due in about Feb/March, you will have completed only 1 sem of college, so you will be principally evaluated on your HS record (gpa and rigor of coursework) and standardized test scores.
