Confused and sad junior..

Ok so I just found out that I lost the Key Club elections for president by 1 FREAKING VOTE. I am so upset!! Ugh. I really wanted this, not only for college (although that was one reason), but because I generally enjoy Key Club. Unfortunately my school has few clubs and I doubt I can become president in any other ones. I really want to stand out to selective colleges, and I don't know what to do. Btw, this year I was VP of Key Club. I know I'm kind of ranting, but I'm really upset and I don't know what to do.

What do you all think about this? I'm a junior, so I have some time to do stuff I guess. Would this make good fodder for an essay? Should I look outside my school?

Maybe if you came upon an essay question telling you to describe a time where you've failed, or encountered a disappointment....

but seriously, it's not that bad. Being Key Club president kinda sucks anyway. Just say in Key Club and do the stuff you actually want to do, instead of feeling pressured to volunteer at everything because you're the President:P

Oh, I was expecting a story of someone confused and sad when I clicked on this, but I got a story of someone who is annoyed and superficial. Unlucky me =-</p>

Maybe its just me, but ECs in general are stupid. Particularly ones where you're just granted a title and do next to nothing.

Thanks. I guess I am just consumed by this "must-have-extraordinary-ecs" mentality for college admissions. :-/

lol The same happened to me when I lost the election for JSA by 1 vote during freshman year. Dont worry, it's not that big of a deal. You will get over it.

You know what you can do? Forget officer positions. As an established member of Key Club, organize community service events for your club. Remain active--in fact, step up your involvement. Make a new committee, start new initiatives, keep going with service. Colleges don't actually care about officer positions if you do something really impactful. Organizing a huge fundraiser or helping disadvantaged people in your community is really impressive, and more importantly, it makes a difference. So, who cares if you're not president...don't let that stop you. Losing the election doesn't mean you're doomed and colleges will ignore your Key Club efforts.

Honestly,

President of Key Club, President of Student Council, President of Film Club///// so NOT "extraordinary"!!

I agree with Mallomar,

If you want to be special, START your own committee! Excell in the REAL WORLD instead of just your high school! Get some jobs! Internships!

It'll make you look like you've developed so much conceptial skills to colleges.

good luck!

Don't stress too much about it. You don't need to be President of Key Club to be a dedicated member.

I don't see this as essay material either, unless there's a short answer question asking about your most significant EC or something. Using it for an essay is kind of... Well, unless it plays a huge, huge part in your life, I think there are more important things to write about.

Thanks guys! I'm already over it, lol.
And I just applied for a Bank of America internship which I hope I get, if not, whatever.
And I've decided that I probably won't write an essay about it. =P

Were you saying thanks to my post?

Time heels EVERYTHING---never forget that!

iin77-yes, lol
Now I kinda agree with what you were saying, and its good for things to be put in perspective.

You could just usurp the presidency de facto.
The person who's really "in charge" of the math club at my school isn't even an officer, but the two presidents of the club don't do much.
