Is the cost the same? Would either require debt?
If you are still stuck in three weeks I could ask my dentist (who is also a professor of dentistry). Otherwise as far as I know they are both very good.
thank you! That would help. Totally confused. No aid/merit in PITT but got a Husky achievement of 12K per year. We are out of state for both of them. Another option is Rutgers. (in-state). First kid going to college.
My guess is that any of these would work well for a pre-dental student, therefore you should make the decision based on other factors. Has your daughter visited all three campuses? That can make a significant difference. Also, what’s the difference in cost between these? You don’t need to answer this publicly, but if your daughter attends a less expensive college, can the extra money go towards dental school? (Dental school is very expensive and most students rack up a lot of debt there.)
So I finally got to see my dentist, who is also a professor of dentistry. He said that Pitt is very good for pre-dental. However, he thinks that you can do well at Rutgers as well, and that if it is significantly less expensive (since you are in-state) that is what he would probably go with. He said “you get out of it what you put into it” which I took to mean that the effort of the student is more important than which school you are attending, particularly when choosing between multiple very good universities.
Hi there- dentist here- I don’t think you have a bad choice between the two. Congrats on your acceptances! What’s going to matter most applying to dental school is your GPA and academic record, as well as making sure you have strong grades in the science pre-reqs, (you don’t have to major in bio for dental school). So you really want to go where you think you will do the best, and where you will happiest because happiness brings success. Good luck!
