I'm sure my fellow forum browsers have heard this many times before, but please bear with me.

I am a high school senior who plans to swim at a D3 school in college, and have applied ED to a school with intent of swimming. The coach has told me I have backing, but when asked about the likelihood of me being accepted, he is very vague.

"Well, ED will help you"
"well, you know, we don't have the power of a D1 school"

these are the kind of things I hear him saying often... Am I being led on? I'm not sure how comfortable I feel about it. However, at this point there's not much I can do but wait for 2 weeks..

Yes I did, and basically got the same thing from the pre-read, saying that ED will help, it would better if i applied to a different school in the university but it may not be necessary. I am (hopefully) borderline. The school’s average UW accepted GPA is 3.6, but I have a 3.2 from a very competitive HS in MA. Plus, my first quarter grades are significantly higher.

stemit- of course, I have one. But, I would prefer to go to this school.

both the GPAs for acceptance and my own are out of 4.

And if it matters, my GPA/5 is a 3.4, this quarter it was a 3.875 with a more rigorous course schedule. From my school, the average accepted GPA out of 5 is a 4.0, but there are many people who were accepted with ~3.5s, while many people with 4.5 seem to have applied as safeties.

I have top 5 times in 2 events, and my other events are at least in the top half of times reported by collegeswimming.com. This year, my goal is to break my school’s record in the 100 fly which is my signature event, and that time would be a top 3 time as of right now from NYU. Furthermore, only 1 underclassman has made it to that time, the other two are seniors. I’d be an immediate impact swimming fly, and i guess a helper in the other events.

Growing impatient as the decision gets closer is normal. We’ve been in your shoes, and I understand your concern. I know it is all you think about morning, noon and night. In our case, the coach knew but could not share the Admissions decision with us. Different coaches deal with this in differrent ways. The coach maybe in the same boat as you…waiting for an answer. While we were waiting for a decision, my son’s recruiting coach asked him what size cleats & hat he wore. Looking back, that was his way of trying to ease our minds. Frankly, it didn’t do much in the way of easing our minds until we logged into the Admissions site to get the answer.

Truthfully, I would hope for the best and plan for the worst. We did that, and learned we had a few more options than previously thought. We had a couple programs come forward that became even more interested at the last possible moment. I would follow stemit’s advice, and look at various contingencies depending on the ED outcome. I would use this time to relook at my backup plan, options and next steps. I would reach out to other coaches that recruited you to touch base. This is how the game is played. I wish you the best of luck.

Thank you fenwaysouth for the encouragement! I definitely have some backups, but not only that, a fellow swimmer on my club team got offers from schools after our state meet last year which was in February from schools such as Dartmouth and some others, so I am hoping I will also get some of those later.

Honestly, I am not going to be too disappointed if I am rejected, because my GPA is very low for the school Of course, I’d be extremely excited to get in.
