Confused - Cal (seems cool) vs chicago (seems scary)

I got into cal heaven knows how…rejected everywhere else at harvard, brown etc. people from my country have yet to receive any decision from uchicago. so still waiting. my major is econs.

i have to answer my scholarship body because they want to know my preference in a couple of hours. will have to type a letter. so, i’m wondering, if im lucky enough to get uchi and have to make a decision, what is better? i know uchi econs is topnotch. however, uchi seems freaky, scary, nerdy and full of stress. berkeley seems cooler, much so, however, it’s huge, housing seems to be a big problem.

how abt the towns…berkeley vs hydepark…which is pleasanter? cooler? cheaper? social life? academics? berkeley seems to have more diversity in academics which is a good thing, but uchi is NOTABLY better at econs.

what say the lot of you? posted it here in the cal forum in hope that i’d see some positive comments…im already leaning toward cal… :)

lol, college isnt 100% just about the academic programs, its also if you feel you fit in. you could go to the best university in the world, but because you dont fit in, you do only average. however, you could go to a good university, but because you fit in, you are the top of the class. i'm not saying berkeley is good, because is one of the best. but you get the gist

i do.. :)
that's why i need to know beyond the major...berkeley vs chicago, i know its really different, two ends of the scale..but i'd love a closer perspective. remember, i'm international and the only way i know a university is thru their gushing websites :P

hmm, well berkeley has a large asian population........if that makes you feel at home more..........
