Confused...how many teacher recs?

I already have planned to get three recommendations plus a guidance counselor recommendation on my common app....but on the supplement it asks for two more? Do my already collected recs count, or do I have to get two other teachers to send in separate recs?

You need a total of two teachers from junior or senior year and the GC. Just use the Harvard forms.

Woe. Too many recs. You just need two teacher recs and one from the guidance counselor. Your teachers are recommended to be from jr and at year but they don’t have to be.

However, when colleges, especially Ivies, “recommend” something, that is really code for ‘do it this way please if at all possible’.

Could we get a rec from someone outside of school in addition to the two teacher recs and the counselor one?

^That’s overkill and unnecessary unless said extra recs shed some new light on the applicant.

And if they do, then they’re okay? :)

Yeah. I seem to remember one college (think it was Yale, maybe Stanford or both) that strongly discouraged extra recs unless said rec shed light on a completely different aspect of the appicant’s character. I got the feeling if the adcom got the “same old same old” from the extra rec, it would count against you.

On second thought, I think Stanford does not even accept the extra recs.

Thanks for the replies! So when I’m filling out my rec slots on the Harvard supplement come august, I just list the two teachers that uploaded their rec to the common app online, correct?

^Yup 10char
