@Meddy I don’t remember exactly, but basically as many practice tests as we could find - the Barrons and Princeton Review books, the ones in the College Board blue SAT book, etc. She just took the practice tests by herself at home (timing herself).
bump?
I’m in a somewhat similar boat as you (HS junior, female interested in STEM) although I’m white and from the Midwest. I concur with the encouragement to work on your SAT score and possibly take the ACT. I would definitely pick a couple safeties and low matches before picking “dream schools”, but get your scores up and you’ve got a very good shot just about anywhere. A lot of the midsize universities that have been suggested here that I’m actually looking at myself need to be shown plenty of interest. Tufts and Case Western are notorious for this. I want to go to a midsize university as well, so here’s my list: Notre Dame, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (small, in the midwest, and not the most diverse, but may be worth a look), Trinity University, Tulane University, Tufts University, Villanova University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln (safety) and University of Alabama (safety). All of these except for Tufts and Villanova are in the midwest or south, however, so this may not help you any
