confused on scholarships?

How do colleges give out scholarships? What's the process if you do get a scholarship? How do you know if you got one? Is it just based on your stats, like gpa and EC's and such? Someone please explain! Thanks and sorry for the stupid question

I assume you’re talking about real scholarships, not need-based financial aid.

Most college scholarships are based entirely or at least partly on you stats. Some have other factors, like ethnicity, organizations you or your parents belong to, etc. Generally the college will notify you of whether you have received a scholarship.

Many colleges have “automatic” scholarships that you get if you have certain stats. These are usually listed on the college’s website.

Some colleges consider you for some scholarships automatically, using the information from your application packet. Others you need to explicitly apply for. Again, check the websites of the colleges where you’re applying, or talk to an admissions counselor.

As annasdad said, there is no one size fits all way colleges decide. Go to the schools websites to see specifics.

do you guys know anything about a dean’s scholarship? How do you get that and what are the requirements?

You would have to check with your school.

A dean’s scholarship might be the name of one of a school’s own institutional scholarships. Some schools may have a scholarship called a dean’s scholarship, others will not. What an institutional scholarship is, its name, and its requirements will be set by the individual school that offer the scholarship.
