I have read through admissions websites for different colleges and even called an admissions office, but I still find myself confused. The schools I am looking at are Stanford, Harvard, UVA, UPenn, UMICH Ann Arbor, & Cornell. I have taken the sat once and the act once, but plan on doing the sat again. What I don't understand is, for instance with Stanford, when saying they require the sat or act with writing, but want to see everything, does that mean that you have to send every score from every act and sat test you've taken, or does that mean you have to send every act score OR every sat score. And likewise for Harvard and the other colleges can someone give me an overview?

Umm well that’s not exactly what I was looking for…

Can anyone clarify for me?

If they say they want everything, send everything (all ACT and SAT scores).

This generally helps you. They will be looking at your best performances for each section accross all tests.

Stanford requires the scores for ALL the tests you’ve taken, both SAT and ACT. Harvard does NOT require you send all scores (I don’t know where you got that). [Harvard College Admissions § Applying: Requirements](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/apply/application_process/requirements.html)

Stanford: requires you to provide all SAT scores and all ACT scores but you can choose which SAT IIs to send. Also, to meet the all ACT requirement you need send only one official ACT score as long as you list other ACT scores in your application.

Harvard: recommends sending all test scores but you can choose not to and send whatever ones you want to send as long as you send at least one SAT or one ACT plus two SAT IIs.

Upenn: requires all scores for all tests you have taken – SATs, ACTs, and SAT IIs – and all must be official scores from the testing agencies

UVa: recommends all SATs but you can submit whatever you want as long as you submit at least one SAT or one ACT; SAT IIs are recommended but not required

UMich: you can submit what you want as long as you submit one SAT or one ACT; SAT subject tests are neither required nor recommended but may be considered if submitted.

Cornell: Cornell’s policy has always been unclear and it keeps modifying it annually (and successfully making it even more unclear with each change). This year, it appears, but it is not certain, that if you submit any SATs or SAT IIs you must submit all SATs and SAT IIs by not exercising score choice but you can choose whether to send ACTs and you can send only one of those even if you have more than one.
