Hello everyone! I'm hoping someone can help explain the timeline of transferring from a community college to a university (specifically UCSD). Let's say you finish your "two years" worth of credits and lower division requirements in the Fall of 2016, if you wanted to start at the university immediately after (spring 2017), wouldn't that mean you'd have to start applying like a year earlier (when you haven't even completed all your classes yet?). So is it kind of like applying as a freshman from high school when they don't know/haven't seen your senior year grades until after the admission process (as long as you keep them above a 2.0 or whatever)? How does the timeline of transferring work? Thank you! :)

First off, no school in the UC system accepts Spring transfers. If you finish your requirements in Fall 2016, you would be applying for admission for Fall 2017.

For UCs, you apply in November for the following Fall. So if you plan to transfer Fall 2017, then you submit applications in November 2016. Then in January, you submit an update with your Fall grades, and planned courses for the Spring. Admission decisions come out in April.

Fall grades matter a lot. If admitted, Spring grades matter less, but they still matter. The general expectation is that your GPA stayS about the same as the gpa you had prior to admission. If you get a D or F in the spring, or if you’d grades fall significantly, it could cause your admission to be rescinded.

Thank you guys so much! That makes sense.
