Confused on what I should do? Please Help!!

I am a undergraduate freshman attending University of Houston. I know it is not that great of a school. To be blunt, it is ****! I really want to become an investment banker, however, I understand that going to a really bad school lowers my chances of getting a job by like 60-80%. My question is what majors should I do in college to outshine other students and make myself marketable in order to get a job as an investment banker in the future? (I am currently thinking to do a double major in economics and finance. Is this the right track?) Also, what steps should I start pursuing to get a head start and outshine other students? For example, any internships or anything I should do in the summer that would make myself marketable. I know I am way behind because of my college status, but I am willing to work my butt off in college. Thank you in advance.

What’s investment banking?

I’m asking you.

Why do you want to become an investment banker?

The finance and business sectors interests me alot. The impact it has on everybody’s lives (whether you like it or not) and the power it has on politics is why it interests me. There are lots of unethical things that goes on in these banks, however, I sort of understand why they do it. I understand the political and economic effects of for example, the goldman sach’s subprime morgage scam and why they were set free with a slap on the wrist. I have two stock portfolios (one that I started and one of my father’s) and I am addicted to it. I gives me sort of a “high” reading, learning, and watching the stock market I don’t know how to explain it. I guess it interests me the most out of all of the subjects. To sum it up, I enjoy reading and learning about the financial and business sector and would want to do this as my career.

Start with the basics: gain internship/work experience, raise GPA, etc. You may not work on Wall Street necessarily, but I would inquire about how good the investment banking output is from UH. I would venture to guess that Houston has a good number of banking firms, so at least you are in a good location for what you want to do.

UH has lots of regional pull. There are fine banks in H.
