confused...really need help

I'm going to study engineering science in university of Toronto this fall(i'm canadian.)
but i don't really know what I really want to do since I'm interested in so many things. So now I'm thinking about applying to med school after I get my engineering degree. But I don't know if I can actually do that since it seems that all the med school students went to study lif sci for their BA. And I want to apply to top american schools since that's the only reason i want to go to the States. I don't know if my engieering degree will get me into top med schools (BTW engineering sci in U of T is claimed to be the best in Canada).
and also I don't knw how I should plan my four years effiecently so I can actually have a good chance for schools like harvard etc. (like when should I take MCAT, where should I volunteer, what jobs should I get, what should I do during summer, should I take summer school da da da...)
anyway, I'm really confused now, my tread my be confusing too, but that's what I'm thinking right now.

PS: is there really a big difference between top medschools and avg ones?

I posted this tread in Medschool section too.i'm posting this here just because I want ppl to see, I really don't knw where should I post it.

There is no specific major for pre-med. You can be anything, but you have to take the courses required for med school. It may be harder to go to med school from engineering because it is hard to keep your gpa up in engineering. There are areas in medical science where an engineering degree would be very important. One that jumps to mind is artificial limbs. If it doesn't bother you, you might consider going 5 years in undergrad instead of 4.

Most people just want to get into a med school, any med school. It is very competitive and the acceptance rate nationally is probably 40-50%. This is even artificially high since it doesn't include people who started out in freshman year as pre-med and gave up.
