I got into Rutgers and Stony Brook Biomedical engineering major. Pl. give some of your opinions regarding Which school has best BME faculty and research opportunities? Advance thanks to every one who gives the suggestions.

Rutgers offers some of the top research in the country. Rutgers also has some of the best science facilities and has a lot to offer if you decide to go there for engineering. Rutgers engineering program is very competitive, so take full advantage of your ability to go to Rutgers.

Thank you theblackswan for your advice, i heard about stony brook has also few research facilities like BNL and also in NY city. I got more financial aid in stony brook than rutgers. I also selected honors program in rutgers and scholars programs in stony brook. That is why i am so confused to which college i have to choose between rutgers and stony brook?

Bump…bump

Go to the one that will leave you with less debt at graduation.

Go to the one that doesn’t take some of your tuition fees to pay Snooki from Jersey Shore to advise everyone to “study hard, but party harder.” And paid her $16,000 per show, not only once, but twice.

Go to the one that doesn’t ignore advice from law enforcement, resulting in crowds too big and unruly for the police to handle properly.

*NEW BRUNSWICK New Brunswicks police director admonished Rutgers University officials today after the schools annual Rutgersfest ended Friday night with two shootings, five injuries and eleven arrests for disorderly conduct in the area surrounding the Rutgers campus.

Police Director Pete Mangarella called the annual day-long free event, featuring games, rides and a concert, “the worst thing of the year for the city of New Brunswick.” He added that the incidents “were the worst we have seen” in the history of the event.

“We were trying to get the university to curtail this last year,” Mangarella said. “The citys concerns over this event are falling on deaf ears.”

[Rutgers University Admonished](New Brunswick police director blames Rutgersfest music festival for mayhem - nj.com)

Who’s running the show over there?

goingcc,

It is not Rutgers’ fault that people from surrounding cities come to New Brunswick and cause this chaos. I believe you haven’t read the entire news. The incident did not involve Rutgers’ students. Both the victim and perpetrator were non-Rutgers’ students. Is Rutgers responsible for what non-Rutgers people do? Moreover, this shooting happened first time during the entire history of the event. And it wasn’t a random fight or shooting but according to the police, both victim and perpetrator had an conflict before which resulted in a face-of at night. So, I would recommend you stop stereotyping Rutgers from this one-off comment of yours and stop blaming Rutgers for what non-Rutgers person did.

And there has never been violence during the concert. All these violence occurs after-concert because of the dirty idiots from surrounding NB towns who cause trouble and give bad name to the university. And such shootings happen regularly in Philadelphia and schools in there. However, for some reason nj.com has some vendetta of highlighting every negative thing that happens in the university in the worse possible manner while never writing about the fundraisers (that raised hundreds of thousands of dollars) or achievements of the student body.

Well, the director of police is blaming Rutgers. And no one is saying Rutgers students were involved; that’s not the point. You say it is not Rutgers’ fault that people from surrounding cities come to New Brunswick. They came to Rutgersfest. The police asked them to curtail it, Rutgers ignored the request. So whose fault is it?

And also, it’s not just nj.com, this story was all over the TV news this morning. For what it’s worth, I do think the media is probably making much ado about nothing, but add this to that Snooki thing, and in my opinion Rutgers is not coming across too well.

Did you go to the “Snooki” event?

Okay, so Rutgers-bashers would always come back with the “Snooki” event. Snooki was not brought in by the administrators but the allocated funds of the student association. Next, most of the student body was not even interested in Snooki and that is a general consensus of the Rutgers student body. And even if they brought “Snooki” what was wrong with that? Rutgers’ always has had two major events at the end of the year: Rutgersfest and a “celebrity” (Snooki is a trash) for an another event. Money paid to Snooki was out of the allocated fund for these two events.

Did you ever read that Rutgers’ just fundraised $380,000 in a two-day dance marathon for families suffering from cancer? I doubt nj.com ever covered or you never read this achievement of Rutgers’ student body. If Rutgers students can fundraise $380,000 for a cause, what was wrong in that they spend $32,000 on an entertaining event (albiet the person they brought in was a trash)? The people who brought in Snooki have apologized and admitted it was a mistake. So, rather than highlighting wrongs about Rutgers, at least give a glance to the positives. For your information, Rutgers is in the top ten schools in terms of fundraising and community involvement for a cause.

Coming back to Rutgersfest incident. It is important to know that the incident didn’t happen during Rutgersfest or the concerts. But it happened during one of the after-parties. It is not the fault of the University but of the police for not enforcing enough security at the college. avenue campus as they would have definitely known that 95% of the parties would occur at college. avenue. And moreover, this event isn’t planned in a week. It has been thoroughly planned over the entire year. So, it was police department’s fault for not developing a sound strategy during the whole year to counter this after-parties even though they knew the locus (college. ave.).

I’m not really looking to bash Rutgers. I agree, after reading your post, that the negative seems to be highlighted in the news and none of the positive. Unfortunately, that’s the way of the media, and it’s probably not going to change in our lifetime.

The fund-raising you wrote about is great. And you’re right, of course I never read about that because that would never be on the news.

It’s a shame Rutgers seems to be targeted lately, because someone like me, from New York, is only hearing what’s on the news. I’m glad I came here and brought this up, and am able to hear other people’s thoughts and opinions on what’s really going on. I found this site while searching for Rutgers, and from what I’ve been reading, it looks like a pretty good place to come for getting information about colleges.
