I'm a sophomore at an out of state 4 year university and I ultimately want to transfer to UCSB. My only problem is I realized this after the filing period. I found on the website that you can apply after a filing period by sending in an admission appeal and if they accept it then I fill out the app. If I go to SBCC this spring semester and try the admission appeal, would it benefit me by being at SBCC, or would it not matter since I wouldn't have completed any classes there? Also, I have a 2.93 gpa (not so impressive). What would be the best route? Would I have to go to SBCC and apply for Fall 12? b/c that would suck.

Sorry to say but you’ll still be viewed as an OOS 4-year transfer… That’s an uphill battle as far as admissions go. You might want to attend SBCC for a year, and then transfer.

If you are already a sophomore, you may not be able to transfer because 1) you have to complete the general education and major prerequisite requirements to be eligible for transfer, but 2) UCSB does not accept applications from students who have earned 135 or more transferable quarter (90 or more semester) units from a combination of two-year and four-year institutions.
