Hello guys! I am a U.S. permanent resident who immigrated from China in 2010. However, since I was 19, I was too old to get into a U.S. high school. I have an OK SAT scores: 2020: Reading (relatively low) 570, Math 750 Writing 700 (Essay: 10) and GREAT SAT 2s Math I: 780 Math II: 800 Physics: 800. I just showed my 3 years academic record in high school becasue Chinese high school is three-year. I took SAT four times. The first time is 1670, second time is 1940 third time is 1950 and the fourth time is 2020. So why do you think I got waitlisted? I just feel confused. I hope you guy could reply me as soon as possible. Thank you very much.

PS: I live in CA for more than 1 year so I should be considered as a CA resident.

What is the system of scoring? is there a UC GPA or GPA at all? If so, what is it? Because that would most likely explain it. SAT II’s no longer matter very much at all, unfortunately for you. This is the first year that they aren’t required and therefore are likely to be barely considered in admission. Congrats on your scores though.

It seems a lot of qualified people have been put on the waitlist/denied. Your CR is low. How were your ECs/essays?

Being waitlisted is at least a sign that you are qualified enough within the current app pool, so it’s probably NOT your stats, but other factors that contributed to the W/L decisions.

Hi, I am Chinese too and I migranted to America 4 years old. I am in the waitlisted too sadly… I recently found an article talks about UC davis -->“applicants who are admitted generally well exceed UC requirements”… so I guess don’t worry about it. Let’s just wait until May together.

I used the same ECs and Essays in my UC Application as in my MIT EA application. The result is first deferred and then rejected. I don’t think there should be any significant problems for these stuffs. I think maybe is my transcript. My GPA is a little low (from 3.5-3.8). I just provided my three years academic records and the visual courses are misssing. I think these may be the reason why I got wait listed… Do you think I still have a chance to get accepted? Thanks.

From what I can make out, a lot of students are going to turn down Davis for other schools (the >2300ers all over this board). Being waitlisted is a good thing really.

Check this bit I found on the web: “If space becomes available in the entering freshman class, some students from the waiting list will be admitted after May. Last year, UC Davis had about 1,500 students on the waiting list and offered admission to about 600. About 350 enrolled at UC Davis for fall 2010.”

Also, dubious, but: [Ms. Sun’s UC Admissions Blog - UCD Waitlist Practice (NOT Verified)](Error)

It predicted 15% of applicants to be waitlisted this year. That’s a BIG number. Also, lots of articles have reported that UCs are going to admit a record number of OOS/Int’l students this year.

I’d suggest writing a good waitlist essay and not worrying about what was wrong with your app. It’s their new policies, most likely.

I don’t believe Physics is an impacted major, so that’s a plus. From the above post, it sounds like you have a 50% chance (or better) of getting off the waitlist. So take heart, write the essay and submit the paperwork and hopefully it’ll work out for you. I hope you get in!!

Wow. I feel guilty for being accepted. You people are going to do great. And a UCD decision in no way predicts the decision for any other UC. Please keep heart. This could just be a major Tufts syndrome/Yield increasing strategy/OOS money need.
