Confused with differences in requirements in CSU's

Hello, I am really confused on the whole concept of transferring to be honest..

I am trying to transfer into Cal Poly SLO from a community college as a Physics major . Their transfer criteria consists of all these classes that support the Physics major such as english comp, critical thinking, speech, (the usual) AND THEN it says I need physics, math, chem..and GE requirements of course. The criteria can be found here Transfer Selection Criteria -Admissions- Cal Poly

But when I go to other colleges' sites like San Fransisco State's, they say all you need is 30 sem units of GE including:
1. One course in oral communication
2. One course in written composition
3. One course in critical thinking
4. One course in mathematics or quantitative reasoning, with intermediate algebra as a prerequisite

Am I understanding this right? Some colleges only need GE requirements plus the 4 basic skills courses, but others (like CalPolySLO) require additional courses that support the major?

bump bump bump

Cal State’s differ greatly in these things. The main reason being that they are at different levels really. Cal Poly (I use this to mean SLO, not Pomona) is a very good school that is very difficult to get into. It is logical that it would have tougher requirements.
