Confused

Over the summer I got several letters from Clemson. One saying that I had provisional acceptance (which was super awesome to hear!) a second one waving my application fee, and a third promising some sort of merit aid. Early December I started to see some people getting accepted but they all seemed to be the valedictorian, perfect score type, which I'm not (1300 sat,33 act, 16th out of 260ish) so I wasn't too worried or anything. But now it's been about a month and a lot more people I know have heard who have stats that are around mine but none of them relieved a letter of provisional acceptance before. My mom went to Clemson and I applied to the honors college but I turned in the application like two days before it was due so she thinks the reason I haven't heard yet is because they're going to send everything at one time and I applied so late. I'm not sure and I'm really skeptical. Clemson was the first app I turned in (August 6th. I was pretty excited to apply!) and I know they have all my materials. I don't know if I did something wrong and they changed their mind about me? I'm starting to get worried! But then I feel dumb for worrying because online they say they'll send them out in February. I'm just confused and stressed. Please help!

I would not sweat it, but that of course is easy to say. Your stats are great, perhaps a call to the admissions office is in order, just in case your app “fell through the cracks”.

I am pretty sure that you will be accepted. Good luck and let us know how the call goes, should you decide to make it

Don’t worry too much - don’t think I’ve ever heard of a case where someone got a provisional acceptance and then got rejected from Clemson so just try and be patient. Call the admissions office to make sure they have everything for your application and other than there probably isn’t much you can do other than wait for mid-February. I know how it feels! I used to check my mailbox everyday when I was a high school senior haha

We are in the same boat. My S has great stats and its as if they have forgotten all about us. I know that all information was submitted and on time. My S has pretty much lost interest as USC is all over him with potential scholarships and honors college acceptance.

@midget63 yes! I love Clemson but USC has done a better job of make me feel wanted or at least so far. I also go into the honors college there which is great but I still wish I would hear from Clemson!

thinkpink and midget63

My son also had a provisional acceptance and he did hear of his acceptance to Clemson. But I have to tell you I was very surprised when his letter came because I believe there were quite a few students last year on CC who reported they had provisional acceptances and were left waiting until the bitter end.
IMHO this is very bad form on Clemson’s part to leave great students hanging especially when students show interest early on and receive this kind of early acceptance. I do believe though you have nothing to worry about as I believe the students who were waiting last year were accepted. I would call though in an effort to call attention to your apps. My son is out of state…are you two in state or out?
Good Luck
Also agreed USC hospitality has been very impressive for a large institution. He has not visited there yet but looking forward to seeing USC.

I’m in state!

My D called admissions about two weeks ago. The woman told her they have a stack of admissions letters waiting to be mailed, but right now they’re focusing on spring admissions.

Well that’s annoying. One thing I learned is they do them in batches.

Ugh, every year it doesn’t seem like the admissions office does anything to fix the problems that they have (poor notification system of the status of your application, unclear notification system etc…). You’ll have to take my word that the university runs a lot better outside of admissions/financial aid.

Pierre, may I ask, what exactly is your relationship to Clemson? Are you faculty there?

My DS also had a provisional acceptance and he did hear of his acceptance to Clemson along with a scholarship. But honestly there was very little communication from clemson. I think we got 1 email before the acceptance packet and we haven’t heard anything since. Most of the other colleges my DS was accepted to have at least been communicating with emails. It leads me to believe that they are either understaffed or the computer systems need some updating. He also applied to Honors but I don’t think he will get in he was pretty sick of writing essays by the time he did that app.

We are OOS so they may just be letting the OOS know ahead of time. If you got a provisional letter I’m sure you will get in.

haha oh no, I’m a student there, graduating hopefully this upcoming December with a civil engineering degree.

Ah that’s what I thought but didn’t want to insult you if you did work there haha. Thanks for being so helpful!

haha no worries, I know admissions can be a pain to deal with since I went through the process myself 4 years ago. I don’t think the office appears to be understaffed but they need to get a computer notification system set up (other colleges even 4 years ago were notifying me via email or an online system I could log into etc…)

Yeah, that is crazy that they have no online status check. My DD is waiting for Clemson and UF, her top choices due to their agriculture programs. We’re in Florida. UF is also notifying in February, but they will post it online. It sounds like Clemson’s could take several days longer because they will be MAILING it that day. If she gets into UF, she’ll be happy, but if she doesn’t (and UF admissions seem to be a true crapshoot – people with perfect SATs and great grades get rejected while similar or lesser students get in), she will be pulling her hair out waiting for Clemson. She was hoping to get some scholarship, but I guess that’s out the window. She’s been accepted everywhere else she applied, of course.

The only other college she applied to that didn’t have an online gizmo was a tiny school with only 1,800 students.

Best of luck to her!

I wouldn’t count the scholarships out. I’m not sure they have mailed all of them. The problem with no online admission status is that you don’t know if they got everything. We had sent my DS’s transcript in August 3rd. I thought everything was ok then on 9/29 we got an email saying they recevd the application and at the bottom where of course I missed it it said HS transcript needed. Sometime in Mid-November I started wondering why we hadn’t heard anything so I went back to the email had a panic attack I had DS get GC to send another one. Luckily they got it and he was accepted but still. Everywhere else DS and I could check to make sure they rev’d everything. Not sure what happened to the other transcript.

Did you get a letter and about them receiving the application? I think I may have gotten a postcard saying they got everything after GC sent the transcript but I’m not sure.

I actually don’t think I got that postcard… I did get an email saying the following were needed:

(blank)

I have also talked to a person in admissions and they had the old ACT score for me so I had that updated recently.

Also, if the OOS academic recruiting scholarship is what you are ruling out, they are NOT done. When I talked to the person in admissions, he said they do them in batches and are still working on them. I wish they were all done close in time though. I’ve seen many people on here be accepted, but I’m still waiting…

Thanks, Tigerin, and congrats, MichiganGeorgia. No, she did not get anything saying they’d received everything either. Back in November, she got something saying they still needed her transcript, which was no big surprise because her guidance counselor needed WEEKS to do them. I assumed they eventually received them because my daughter actually SAW the GC mail them. But I realized a few weeks ago I never did get anything final, so I called. They said they had everything, but nothing else. Good to know about OOS scholarships not being out yet. She’s really sad about that. She has great test scores, but is NOT in the Top 10% of her class (She goes to a magnet school for agriscience, and the top 10%+ of her class are all kids in the IB magnet because they judge on weighted GPA, and the IB kids get 2 extra points for EVERY SINGLE COURSE, so no one in another magnet can beat that). I’m hoping that, since the guidance counselor sends a description of the school, they’ll figure that out. Her CR and Writing SATs are well above the middle 50% for Clemson and math is at the high end of the middle 50. She would consider Clemson even if she got into UF, if there was money. The smaller school appeals to her (UF is 3 times the size), Clemson sounds much better, location-wise than Gainesville (Just about anything is), and the former head of our county Farm Bureau really raved about Clemson, as has a friend whose daughter goes there.

How are people getting all this info when they call admissions? The guy I talked to was like a blank wall. I guess other folks are just more outgoing!
