My favorite subject is by far algebra. I find it extremely interesting and I love studying it. However I think I do better in Physics and Chemistry. In stuff included in our syllabus I’m pretty much on the same level in all subjects, meaning I do excellent in school in all subjects. Where I can spot some difference, is in contests, where the syllabus isnt particular and we are asked to answer very difficult problems. I’ve been participating in math contests for years and always passed the first stage, but I’ve only succeeded through the second stage once, thus having participating in the third stage only once, without success. In conclusion I’ve never made it to a math olympiad. I didn’t do bad, taking into account that few students pass the first stage, but I didnt do exceptionally well either. In contradiction, I did really well in chemistry this year (11th place nationally out of 1780 contestants with almost no preparation) and its only the first year ive given it a shot. Im sure next year I will do even better. Would you advice me to stick to math, that I love, or chemistry/physics that im better at, in order to develop a spike?

There’s no reason you can’t do both. It will still be a spike in STEM. My son is similar and he is considering a double major in applied math and physics. My understanding is that it’s much harder to do well in math contests than chemistry.
I wouldn’t worry so much about having a spike.
Have fun with the stuff you’re good at.
