hi i am a freshman at boston college. I want to eventually transfer to an ivy-level school, namely JHU, Duke, WUSTL, and of course the ivies. I did not have a stellar high school record though. I graduated with a 4.1 weighted GPA, and a 30 ACT. If I were to get a 3.8-4.0 for 3 semesters and apply as a junior transfer, would my college GPA alone completely make up for my not-up-to-par high school record? thanks. also, do community college classes taken while in high school come into account if they are not on my 4-year university GPA?

hi awesome411.

like you, I also have a 'not up to par' high school record. But unfortunately I do think the colleges take into consideration both your hs grades and your college grades but perhaps with more weight on the college grades.

i highly doubt that your cc classes taken in high school will come into account for any gpa calculations. they would be terrific to mention in an essay tho!

I applied to Loyola University and Depaul University in Chicago...currently I am a sophomore in college and in need of transferring. I realize that these are not "ivy-league" competitive but I have to fear for the worse. So far I have only made one B in my college courses...what are my chances of getting in? If you know anyone that got in to these schools or are attending yourself...please fill me in.

hey! I'm a freshman at Duke and I spoke with Chris Guttentag, the UG admissions officer. He said that only 12 transfers were admitted last year, so don't have super high hopes about Duke just because they like to keep numbers exceptionally low. I really hope it changes this year. good luck!
